Arlington Catholic High School Athletic Director Dan Shine announces the retirement of longtime Head Football Coach Serge Clivio from the coaching ranks.

Mr. Clivio has served as a coach at Arlington Catholic for 35 seasons, 29 as Head Coach after taking over the reins of the program from the late Don Stevens in the fall of 1987.  During his tenure as head coach, he led the Cougars to seven Catholic Central League championships, and two Super Bowl titles in 1993 and 2008.  Over the course of his 29-year tenure, Mr. Clivio coached dozens of CCL All-Stars and All-Scholastics, as well as numerous players who continued playing at the collegiate level.

Mr. Clivio has been a member of the Theology Department at AC since 1984, and will continue to serve the Arlington Catholic community in this capacity.  He has also been named as the Head Coach of the North squad in this year’s Shriners’ All-Star Game, and has served in the past as an assistant in this prestigious event.

“Coach Clivio’s legacy at Arlington Catholic extends far beyond the gridiron,” said Mr. Shine.  “He has mentored hundreds of our young men, and has always been, and will remain, an outstanding role model to our students here at AC.  I have always valued his dedication to our school, and his commitment to teaching life lessons to all that he coached.  On behalf of the entire Arlington Catholic community, we thank Mr. Clivio for his service.”

Mr. Clivio will continue in his teaching capacity at AC, and will assume more responsibility in the Athletic Department as Assistant Athletic Director.
