The Cougar Growl

The Cougar Growl, our online newspaper, as well as the school yearbook begins by planning the coverage for the school year, and by designing a unifying theme for the yearbook. Students use their journalism skills, including layout and design techniques, writing and editing copy, headlines and picture captions. The students study and practice in gathering and analyzing information, interviewing, note-taking, article writing, and photography. Students learn strategies of planning, marketing (ad sales) and distribution of the newspaper and yearbook. Students learn proofing strategies. They will work independently with journalists and photographers from The Boston Globe. Students learn good work habits and be responsible for all phases of the school newspaper and the yearbook publication. In addition, students are eligible to enroll in the Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for high school journalists. At times, deadlines may require that staff members work after school.
